The full rush of fall outreach
Plus upcoming events and volunteering opportunities
Published August 27, 2024
We’ve had an exciting few weeks with the official launch of the Yes on 117 campaign and a big push to collect endorsements – thanks to the many volunteers who went out and made asks!
Now we’re getting ready for the full rush of fall outreach, with opportunities all around the state along with actions you can take right from home. We hope to see you soon! Have questions about our work in Oregon? Contact our Oregon Field Organizer Meg Wade.
Join us next week at the Harney County Fair!
RepresentUs is headed to Southeastern OR the first week of September, to talk with visitors at the Harney County Fair. Can you volunteer for a shift to help us staff our fair booth?
We’ll be there from 10am-6pm PT Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, September 5-7. Shift times are flexible but we recommend committing to 2-3 hours.
All training provided; come get all your questions about Ranked Choice answered and learn how to share about it with others, and how to run a mock voting process. And we’ll have snacks and plenty of cold drinks for you on hand!
The fair is in Burns, Oregon; we can help cover some travel costs for volunteers driving from further away.
Reach out to Meg to get more details and sign up ([email protected] or 503.893.5695), and be a part of making sure that everyone in Oregon gets an equal opportunity to learn about Ranked Choice Voting, no matter what corner of the state they live in.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT! Get ready to volunteer for Ranked Choice Voting
We’re hosting our second statewide online volunteer orientation this Wednesday, August 28th, from 6-7pm.
Join RepresentUs volunteers from around the state to hear an update about the efforts to pass Ranked Choice Voting and the Yes on 117 campaign, then get connected to opportunities to spread the word and build momentum as we head into election season.
Outreach Opportunities in September
Text and phone outreach to voters will be picking up as we get closer to the election–keep an eye on our events calendar for new dates each week. But September is also a fantastic month to do outreach outside, as we lose the summer heat but aren’t yet in the rainy season. Why not head outdoors to talk to members of your community this month?
Canvassing is a great way to talk with folks. Logistics and materials are simpler than tabling, and you get to see people face-to-face, unlike phone or textbanking. And you can enjoy the last of the summer sunshine!
What’s it take to canvass? Here’s all it takes:
- Pick a place: a busy park, plaza, or public street, or your weekly farmers market
- Pick a time: we recommend going for at least 2 hours, to get in the groove and have the most impact
- Schedule a short call with Meg: ([email protected] or 503.893.5695). We’ll go over our current talking points, share some things to know about where to go, how to stay safe, and how to be effective, and set you up with materials.
- Recruit a friend or fellow volunteer: It’s always good to go in pairs! We can help connect you with other supporters in your area if you need.
- Get your gear, and get out there! Some clipboards and pens, some water and a snack, comfortable clothes and shoes, and you’re ready to go!
Need more support? Join us on Tuesday, September 10th for a quick online training session.
