Dexter Williams is the Research Analyst at RepresentUs (RU). He works with multiple state legislatures and coalitions to implement democracy reform policies. Most recently, he worked as a Policy Aide at the Council of the District of Columbia. He drafted the District’s landmark legislation known as the Restore the Vote Act. The bill reestablished voting rights for incarcerated residents serving time for a felony. He also created a program that provides employers with a financial incentive to hire returning citizens given their unique barriers to employment.
Prior to working at the Council, he was a leader of the DC Fair Elections Coalition, which successfully advocated to have a public campaign financing program in the District. The program started during the 2020 election cycle. Several candidates participated in the program. In fact, it was one of the most diverse fields of candidates the city has ever seen. One Fair Elections candidate defeated an incumbent and another candidate won an At-Large Council seat against all the political odds.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore.
