ConnecticutNo Excuse Absentee Voting

Campaign Status: Victory!

Outcome

Voters in CT passed Question 1 (56.5% in favor, 43.5% against)

The Policy

Question 1: No excuse absentee voting

Good for voters: Absentee voting gives voters the option to vote securely and on their own schedules – without the stress of finding childcare or taking time off work.

Background

Before this measure passed, voters in Connecticut needed an “excuse,” like a disability status or being out of town to be eligible to vote with an absentee ballot. These requirements represented additional hoops voters needed to jump through in order to vote in a way that’s safe, secure, and convenient for them. We support policies that expand access and reduce barriers to the ballot, and this measure did just that.

Who’s Involved?

The ACLU of Connecticut led the charge on the ground, with support from CT Project Action Fund and national groups like the National Vote at Home Institute.
