Arizona Voters Scored A Big Win for Democracy
Voters powerfully rejected four efforts to rewrite Arizona’s Constitution
ArizonaProposition 136
ArizonaProposition 134
ArizonaProposition 133
ArizonaProposition 137
Driven by politicians seeking to expand their own power, and backed by special interest groups, these ballot measures, if passed, would have given judges lifetime appointments, made citizen initiatives virtually impossible, and blocked the possibility for future election reforms.
Campaign Coalition
The Campaign to Protect Voter Power
Led by Kazz Fernandes and backed by Protect AZ Voices, Better Ballot AZ, and Voter Choice AZ, with financial muscle from RepresentUs and Unite America, we put substantial time and resources into defeating these propositions.
We kept our focus sharp, rallied our partners, and targeted the right voters with a mix of texts, ads, and smart arguments in the state’s publicity pamphlets.
2 million texts sent
In collaboration with Progress Arizona, we used polling data to send over 2 million text messages to 1.4 million key voters, educating them on the negative impacts of the propositions.
350,000 impressions with key voting demographics
Through targeted digital ads on Meta platforms, our team was able to achieve 350,000 impressions and reach a critical voting population by focusing on RepresentUs supporters in Arizona and lookalike audiences based on similar demographics.
$40,000 grant to Voter Choice AZ in a critical moment
RepresentUS invested $40,000 for additional personnel in the final months of the campaign, allowing Protect AZ Voices to reach more undecided voters.
Publicity Pamphlet takeover
We leveraged Arizona’s statewide publicity pamphlet—a crucial voter information tool—by training volunteers and submitting detailed opposition arguments for each of the four measures, effectively reaching every Arizona voter with our key messages.
Established & trusted presence
RepresentUS has invested in Arizona for years, helping to lead coalitions in the legislature, supporting the efforts of reform and civic engagement organizations in the state. And we will be hosting the next American Democracy Summit (ADS) in Arizona to highlight the efforts of millions of Arizonans fighting for democracy.
The Impact
Defeating these propositions was a victory for Arizonans—and for democracy. These measures threatened to block citizen initiatives and stall election reforms. By rejecting them, we protected future opportunities like Ranked Choice Voting and upheld voter accountability for judges.
Real change starts locally. Fixing our broken system begins with city and state victories that spark national momentum. It’s the blueprint of every major movement—women’s suffrage, marriage equality, interracial marriage.
Wins like this in Arizona pave the way for transformative, nationwide progress in 2025 and beyond.
@representus 🚨 Arizona voters: Special interests are pushing a dangerous agenda this November. Propositions 133, 134, 136, and 137 are designed to strip away your rights and give more power to politicians and wealthy insiders. These measures would shut out independent voters, make it harder for citizens to lead ballot initiatives, and even end crucial checks on judicial power. Don’t let them get away with it! Stand up for democracy—protect your rights and vote NO on Propositions 133, 134, 136, and 137. represent.us/arizona24 #WethePeople #Corruption #ProtectYourVote #ArizonaVotes #RepresentUs #SpecialInterest ♬ original sound - RepresentUs
