The Policy

Question 1: Campaign Finance Reform, limit contributions to super PACs

✅ Good for voters: Super PACs raise billions of dollars to support and buy influence from the candidates they back. Attempts to rein in this political spending would help to give voice back to everyday Americans.

Background

This ballot initiative would limit contributions to political action committees making independent expenditures (AKA “super PACs”) to $5,000 annually, which would apply to contributions from individuals, business entities, and other political action committees. In 2010, a federal court struck down similar limits on super PACs contributions in a case called Speechnow.org v. FEC, but the Supreme Court hasn’t ruled on the issue yet. This initiative was designed to challenge that precedent with the hope that it will create a legal challenge that reaches the Supreme Court, giving the Justices the opportunity to reverse Speechnow.org and restore our ability to put reasonable limits on dark money.

Who’s Involved?
