Whether you’re bringing it to your church, school, or club, this is your step-by-step guide to hosting a screening event for Unbreaking America.

Have questions while you’re planning?

Join our Discord channel to talk about your event in realtime:

1. Choose a date and venue

Decide when and where you’d like to show the film. You can show it to an existing group, like your book club, class or entire school… or you can host your own event.

Great venues for screenings and meetups include:

  • Schools
  • Community libraries
  • Your home
  • Independent movie theaters
  • A local bar or brewery
  • Churches

2. Spread the word about your event

Once you’ve finalized when and where you’ll show Unbreaking America, send us your event details so we know you’re hosting an event.

RepresentUs can work with you to make an RSVP page and help promote your event, if you’d like it to be public.

If you’re hosting your own screening, your next step is to invite people to your event. You can share your event privately with people in your network via email, word-of-mouth, and private Facebook events, or you can open it up to the public.

Here’s a sample outreach schedule:

  • 2 weeks out: Share your event and RSVP page and contact people individually who you think might be interested
  • 1 week out: Remind people to RSVP
  • Day before: Send a reminder message or text to people who have RSVP’d

If you’re bringing the film to an existing group, it’s still a great idea to send that group advance notice of the screening and event details to get them interested and excited to join.

3. Choose what to do along with the screening

Showing Unbreaking America is a great opportunity to spark conversation and action in your community. Here are some examples of things that pair well with the film:

  • Special guest speakers, like local politicians or organization leaders
  • A party with food and drink
  • A group discussion about the film and how corruption affects your community
  • A brainstorm about actions you can take in your community

The options are endless – but if you want help with your agenda, you can use our sample agenda here.

4. Host Your Event

When it’s time to host your event, make sure you:

  • Remind people who have RSVP’d on the day of your event
  • Arrive early to set up
  • Set up the film video and audio: Watch it online here or contact an organizer on Discord to get a version you can download and play
  • Get a headcount of how many people watch the film
  • Take pictures or ask a volunteer to take pictures during the event
  • Ask people to take an action in support of the movement, and follow up with people who raise their hands to get involved.

5. Report back

All done? You’re awesome!

When you’ve held your event, we want to hear all about it and share news about your great work – including adding your screening numbers to our video counter to help us reach 11 million.
