How to Take Effective Political Action
Finding Volunteer Opportunities
There is nothing more rewarding than volunteering and helping a campaign, an individual, or your community in things you are passionate about.
However, it can be difficult to actually find exactly what you are looking for. Here are some methods and resources available to help you get started.
Methods to find volunteering opportunities:
Look on the websites of groups that you follow. Most sites will have a page where you can “Get Involved”.
Find social media groups in your area (Facebook Groups, as an example) that focus on issues important to you. There are large networks in your area, and once you find them you will be looped in and find motivation from your peers.
Reach out to leaders or groups you’ve previously volunteered with. Most people have an email available to the public and are always available to connect with potential volunteers
When you volunteer, stay connected to people you meet. This will make the experience more enjoyable and they can loop you into what volunteering they are doing.
Figure out what kind of volunteering you are good at or want to do, and that will help narrow down your search. Are you interested in planning events? Making calls? Writing letters?
Ask people in your network about volunteer opportunities. Where do they volunteer? How do they like it?
