Phase 4.6: Lobbying and Electoral Work

Phase 4.6: Lobbying and Electoral Work

Here is the last step to your anti-corruption campaign! Finally getting officials on the record or passing a local law or resolution is going to be a huge milestone for your chapter, and for the national movement. RepresentUs will be able to publicize the officials and candidates that you’ve gotten on the record, and you’ll have some great content for leveraging local media during your final pressure-building campaign against the opposition.

For this last push, you will need to rehearse your talking points with your teammates, research each official and candidate, determine exactly how you’re going to make your pitch and how you’re going to react if you get an answer. Your team will need to be politely persistent, and aim to meet with as many local and state politicians and candidates as you have the capacity for.

Here are your lobbying and electoral work goals for Phase 4:

  • Team members lobby their respective local and state lawmakers, get elected officials to sign on to anti-corruption platform.
  • Team members meet with their Congress member, ask for his/her endorsement, and get him/her on the record as for or against the AACA.
  • Utilize the press and other means to make the public aware of the candidate’s stances on corruption–make corruption a central issue during election season.
