The presidential election in November is poised to be the most expensive election in history, despite many average citizens being in an era of mass financial hardship. It’s a classic American political story to spend billions of dollars to have basically nothing change.
And yet, as it currently stands, 2028 is poised to be the most expensive election in history. And then, 2032 will be as well. And 2036. And so on and so forth. How are ordinary citizens ever supposed to have a say in how our government is run if we’ll be drowned out by billionaires and special interests for the foreseeable future?
It’s clear we must change how we do campaign finance now. Safeguards must be put in place so that spending by wealthy individuals, corporations, Political Action Committees (PACs), and Super PACs don’t determine elections – voters do.

- Programs like Democracy Dollars
- Caps on campaign spending
- Requiring disclosures on sources of major donations
- Ending dark money
- Banning campaign spending by foreign-influenced corporations
