Rachel Brewer

Rachel Brewer is the leader of Represent George Mason. She spearheaded the development of one of RepresentUs’ first campus chapters, which is now a model for our high school and university programs.

I didn’t have anyone else with me on day one, but I figured, if I can get into it, others can too.

So I made some signs and put them up around campus. It’s amazing how a little effort can inspire others, and within a couple of weeks, I had a crew working with me. We got creative and started drawing with chalk on sidewalks and pavement all over campus to get the message out. We also covered the basics like making announcements at other student organizations’ meetings and signing up even more supporters along the way.

I think our best event so far was the Gridlock Block Party, which brought people from the right and left together to talk about corruption. I was nervous no one would come, but people are so sick of politics-as-usual that they were dying to have an honest conversation about US Politics.

Running George Mason’s campus chapter is fulfilling because I’m working toward a goal that I really believe in.

If you’re a college student wondering if you should bring RepresentUs to your campus, go for it! I think there’s no better time to be outspoken and radical than in college. You have an audience, you’re surrounded by a wonderful community of people, and it’s the perfect opportunity to be heard.
